1/27/2012 9:51:33 AM Let's talk about what really matters in court reporting, which is becoming writing on a wealthy person's steno machine. A lot of court reporters will tell you that money isn't the only thing that matters in the career, that other importers things are learning new words and working with attorneys and being in a legal setting, but I want to do all those things while being loaded with cash. So, what are some of the things court reporters should know that can take them from 5 digits to 6 digits? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks, Amanda |

![]() | You have to work hard. That probably means five days a week. You may have to do your own scoping/proofing. Find an agency that you really like to work for and stick with them. If an agency is not giving you the amount of work you want, broaden your horizons. Try to find an agency that is fair as far as what they pay you for originals, copies, and what they take for commission. That's probably not going to be one of those national agencies. Be nice to the person that gives out the jobs. Dress and act like a professional. Take pride in your work. Get all your work in on time or early, not late. Take any job the agency gives you at the beginning. Do a favor for the agency if they have something they're having a hard time covering, within reason. Don't get upset with clients or with anyone at the depo for that matter. Smile. Wait until you're in your car to yell and scream or go to the gym and punch a punching bag to relieve your stress. Pretty soon, clients will be asking for you, and you can make that six-figure income. Hey, it worked for me!! |
