You're going to get a lot of different opinions on this one, but I would use he said/she said situation.

I didn't even think of that, but that is a good idea.    -    AmandaCat 1/28/2012 10:45:10 AM | Flag

I would use hyphens or quotation marks as Amanda did in the beginning.

The forward slant should not be used, in my opinion, because it's my understanding that the forward slant is used for things that can be the same thing at the same time.  For instance:  I can be a mother/sister/wife at the same time.

In my opinion, one cannot be a he and a she at the same time.

A forward slash can also be used to indicate a choice between the words it separates, and can also be substituted with the word or. A he said/she said situation -- a he said or she said situation. I said there would be a lot of different opinions on this one.    -    fstfngrs 1/28/2012 7:10:49 AM | Flag
I agree with you, Fast. Just like the words and/or. Plus, if you've ever been to NYC, one can be a he and a she at the same time, LOL!!    -    Bustaboo 1/28/2012 1:56:47 PM | Flag
Because I want to be sure that the information I provide to the SMA scoping students is accurate, this was the resource I discovered in this process:Eliminate/Reduce Slashes/Diagonals/Slants(http://www.businesswritingblog.com/business_writing/2007/04/eliminatereduce.html)The use of the forward slash (/) has gone too far. Whether known as the slash, diagonal, virgule, slant, or solidus, the mark is simply showing up too often. I used to see them commonly in only and/or and his/her constructions. But lately I can't turn away from my computer without having another one appear on the screen. Are you experiencing the same thing?    -    DRob63 1/29/2012 3:12:20 PM | Flag
