My Diamonte Stopped Writing to my Case Catalyst

Today, while writing on my Diamonte it stopped writing to Case Catalyst.  Everything was plugged in, lots of power, just stopped.

I closed out the file and saved it.  When I tried to open a new realtime file (it was just for me) a dialogue box popped up saying , Talking to Writer.  I continued to write without Case Catalyst and saved the file to a USB drive.  Later on, I merged the first file with the second file without a problem.  I also use a digital recorder that is independent of my writer and computer just in case something like today ever happens.

I tested my Fusion writer with the Netbook by writing a test RT file, and it was fine.  It's time for a cleaning anyway.

Has this happened to anyone with their writers and Case Catalyst?

It has happened to me in the past, but everytime it would stop was because I had to replace my realtime cable.   Sometimes it would work and other times it would stop right in the middle of the job, and since I have a Stenura 8000 with no disk drive anymore, I have to stop the jobs and restart.  I refuse to transcibe from my notes, especially since my keys are so jacked up it cuts off the letters on paper, but I like the touch because of my carpal tunnel.

Rosalie, are you saying Stentura is the best machine to have when you have carpal tunnel?    -    AmandaCat 1/27/2012 2:55:13 AM | Flag
Oh, no, Amanda. What I meant by my comment, since my machine is from the 1990s, the last time I had my machine serviced the man adjusted the keys, which is lighter to the touch, but it cuts off the top letters on my stenopaper. I don't want to change it because then I would have to press harder on the keys which would aggravate my carpal tunnel. Hoping this is the year to get a new machine, though. I'm thinking about the Elan Mira. Anyone have carpal tunnel and use that machine?    -    Rosalie 1/27/2012 8:13:27 AM | Flag
Thanks Rosalie. I have a realtime cable for my Fusion, and it fits the Diamante. I thought the realtime cables lasted much longer than two years. I'm not taking any chances, though. I'm going to use the Fusion for now and have the Diamante serviced.    -    pinksteno 1/27/2012 7:58:16 PM | Flag
Another thing, Rosalie. I checked my Diamante manual, and it addresses the problem of the writer being unresponsive, and it suggests reseting the writer. I'll try that, too.    -    pinksteno 1/27/2012 8:05:12 PM | Flag
I think two years is about how long they last. Now I just lay my cable inside my bag without wrapping it up. As I'm typing this I see your new post about your manual. Hopefully you will be able to correct the problem by resetting it.    -    Rosalie 1/27/2012 5:08:50 PM | Flag
That's exactly what I just did. I took out the Fusion cable and placed it in a large leather envelope instead of wrapping it up. Thanks again for the tip.    -    pinksteno 1/27/2012 8:29:06 PM | Flag
Thanks Rosalie for the tip about the cable. I tested my Fusion cable with the Diamante, and it was fine. Apparently, the pop-up message that read Talking to Computer meant the cable was not working. I ordered some extra cables from Stenograph.    -    pinksteno 1/30/2012 11:07:43 AM | Flag
