2/16/2011 5:48:32 AM I am just starting to try realtime and was asking for feedback from Case Catalyst users 11 regarding starting with netbook or laptop? I don't really want to lug around heavy laptop and am hearing new netbooks are being used by some Case Catalyst users for realtime. Any input out there? Thanks! |

We all (mostly) write to laptops on our jobs. This, in essence, is realtime writing. What size laptop you prefer (no matter what software) is your personal preference - whether you can edit on the netbook or just want to have a light load. I write to a 12 inch Dell, and I'm on Case 11.8. I think what you may be hearing about reporters *writing for realtime on netbooks* may refer to reporters carrying around extra spare netbooks to place in front of the attys for our realtime jobs. Realtime is becoming ever-more prevalent, and over these last three or four years, we've run into problems with attys not knowing how to properly operate their realtime, not knowing what COM port they are on, not realizing they need their own serial to USB adapter - among many other issues. Some really smart reporter decided to invest in a small netbook of his/her own. Load it with the atty viewing software. Get his/her own USB adapters. And now it's more commonplace. In fact, the question is becoming, *How many do you have?* Lol! I know you're talking about lightening your load, but carrying spare netbooks can make your wallet heavier! They pay for themselves on your realtime jobs and they're a write-off on your taxes... It's a win-win. |
