I want to move to California and am looking for a good court reporting school to transfer to. If any one has any information about South Coast College it would be very helpful. Thanks!

Hi Brandi,

In case you haven't checked out their website, here's the link.  http://www.southcoastcollege.com/programs-court-reporting.php

I graduated from SCCCR 19 years ago and was pleased with their curriculum.  I didn't pass the practical on my first attempt but that was due to nerves, not the fault of the school.  They even let me attend speed classes at no charge while I was waiting to re-take the practical.

You may want to look into Bryan College and Cerritos College as a comparison.

I have no complaints about SCCCR.

Good luck.

Where is Griswold Community College?  I don't see it online.

It's called Tri-Community Adult Education. They're located at 16209 E. San Bernardino Rd. in Covina. Good court reporting program without cost of private school. I graduated from there in '99. www.cvusd.k12.ca.us.tri-community/ag/courtreporting    -    dford 1/16/2011 11:24:35 PM | Flag

I loved SCC.  I got through the program in two-and-a-half years, pregnancy and all.  It is expensive, but they have financial aid.  I figured I would save in the end completing the program faster and making money sooner and it seemed to have worked.

yes, it is expensive though!!! I guess it also depends on where you move to in So Cal because unless you live in the OC, the commute SUCKS!!!!

I graduated from Griswold and it`s a great court reporting school and the best thing is that I left there debt free with no student loans and a am now a court reporter.

I started CR school in NY and transferred to SCC at low speeds. Yes, it is expensive, but a great school. It wasn`t the closest to me since I lived in LA County, but to me the quality of the program was worth the drive. One of the few places you can get live four-voice dictation everyday from 180 wpm. If u want to save some money there are other programs on the area, but whatever u do, don`t go to Bryan They used to have a great reputation, but we got a lot of unhappy students transferring from

Don`t know what part of CA you`re looking to move to, but there`s also Sage College in Moreno Valley.

I went to South Coast also, but back in the day when we registered through Coastline Community College for the court reporting program contracted through South Coast (South Coast was in Westminster back then). Is that still even an option?

Another thing about the community college programs is that they take long breaks So you can save money going to a community college, but you really need to commit to practicing during your time off, or you spend a month every time you go back just recovering the speed you left with.

Cerritos College is not far from SCC and the cost is far less. I am a third year student and transferred from out-of-state. South Coast College wanted me to start all over from the beginning and use their theory. Not only would it have been expensive to attend, but I would have wasted three years. The staff at Cerritos is great and I highly recommend going there! I just completed my first semester with them and their online staff is attentive, supportive, and incredibly helpful. I`m really gl

I had a good experience at SCC. The program is great, and the staff is very encouraging and motivating. I just graduated in 2009. It took me years, and I am now working as a deposition reporter. The only downfall is that it is a little expensive, but you do get a quality education.

Edit: It took me 3 years.

Well, I transferred to SCC with a different theory in 2002 (I learned Sten-Ed in NY) and they didn`t make learn theirs (which I don`t like, anyway).

Check out Cerritos College in Norwalk California too. Both good programs.

I graduated from South Coast, and I agree that they have a wonderful program. Very expensive, though. The local community colleges that were mentioned are pretty well respected, so you might want to check them out just so that you know what your options are. But I really couldn`t recommend South Coast highly enough. I was very, very happy with the program.I`ve taught at two different court reporting programs after retiring from Superior Court, and that perspective allows me to be very com

I transferred to SCC from a court reporting school in Atlanta. The staff was friendly and the program was great! As stated by other posts, it is expensive and had I done more research before I moved out there, I would have most likely gone somewhere else. Also, as someone else said, if you don`t live in the area, the commute can be painful. Fortunately, I lived 2 miles from the school, so that really wasn`t an issue. SCC definitely prepares you very well for the state exam. It`s one of

I went to South Coast when it was in Westminster. I commuted from Long Bch. wasnt too bad of a commute. Really good program. Had a great time there. Been reporting for 20 yrs now. Took test in San Francisco. passed 1st time. Good luck.

I know a lot of people that went to Sage in Riverside. So if you are in that area of So Cal, it is also a good school -- comparable to South Coast as far as quality of education and price.

And yes, South Coast would get a lot of unhappy transfer students from Bryan.

I left Cerritos Community and went to SCC since Cerritos was using SCC`s book I thought it would be better. I ran out of loan funding so I couldn`t attend SCC longer.Currently I`m at Downey Adult School. I think it`s better than community college due to the cut in education funding which resulted in cuts of classes available. It`s more to go to Downey Adult School than community college, but less than private college. The benefit of Downey Adult School is that you get dication tests even

I went to an expensive school and in retrospect I wish I had gone to the community college and saved money on all those student loans it took to get through school. I also should have moved home with my parents and saved money and gone to day school and gotten out more quickly! Instead I worked days and went to school nights and couldn`t get my speed up until I switched to day school. Most of my co-workers in the court where I`ve worked over 20 years went to the community college instead of t

I went to scc, loved the environment, staff was great, program was great, except I believe their theory is stroke intensive which I regret greatly now!!! But student debt is tremendous. Transferred to community college, still liked it, cost was fantastic. Got me to same place ....the exam so the expensive school doesn`t necessarily equate to better education. Only regret about school is learning the scc theory. It haunts me today because I automatically write everything out and it`s hard to mo
