Hi, Carolyn. That depends! Well, that's kinda wishy-washy. What I mean is that depends on how the writer feels to you. If you're not in a hurry, you should try testing each writer at a convention ... but if you are in a hurry, you will have to get in touch with both the Stenograph rep and the Advantage Software rep and have them both come over and do a presentation for you. If you can get each rep to run you through the steps to load your personal dictionary on the writer, that's great! This way, you can test it with your laptop and CAT software. I would add bonus points to the writer that gave me the least trouble during this portion of the demo. Tanya, go here: http://www.cheapandsleazy.net/passport.html Alas, I don't have a review of the Diamante up as yet. I had one of the beta testers lined up to write the review, but then Technolust II came out, and suddenly, I could not reach that reviewer ... but that was quite a while ago, so I will approach someone that has had her Diamante for quite a while that can give us the full 411 on it. (Hmmm ... 411 doesn't bring up Directory Assistance anymore, does it? Should I have written "... the full 555-1212 instead? Dilemma, dilemma ...) |

| Amy Dillingham Caronongan After my dealings with the money-hungry corporate people working at Stenograph, I would try the Passport before I laid hands on the Diamante. Can`t give my opinion about either writer, but my knowledge of both companies tells me which way to go -- the Passport. Advantage Software is much more consumer friendly than Stenograph, which means a great deal to me. After using Eclipse for 11 years, I can`t imagine Advantage Software would produce a bad writer. | Krista Burgeson I think the Diamante is an excellent writer and I have loved mine the entire year I have had it. Top notch writer. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Maryl Hart Wouldn`t buy a S/G product anymore. Love the way my Passport writes - so soft on my hands! - wish its body were more aerodynamic. And the CS at Eclipse is quite good. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Jackie Sigwing I know people love to hate Stenograph, but I have been loving my pink Diamante. It gets quite a bit of attention on jobs, too, due to the color! You can adjust the touch any way you want, and I swear my hands are just slightly not as bent when I use it as they were with my Mira, which I also loved. Might be the same keyboard so maybe the body of the machine is different so I hold my hands in a better position, not sure. It`s also so lightweight, most of the time I carry it in the case with t Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Michelle Iadonisi Eak Well, I don`t know how one can answer that, unless they`ve used both for a period of time. I love my Mira, and I would love to get a Diamante. And I hope the pink ones come around again. . . Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Matthew Martinez Has anybody whose replied to this question had the Diamanté and the Passport? No? Well, I have. I`m currently selling my Diamanté because I bought the Passport! Better touch, better everything. Go on Advantage Software`s site and watch all the videos and compare it to what you see on the Diamanté. I`d say looks us the only thing the Diamanté has going for it. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Rossana Baker I love my Diamante. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Linda Harnick I love my Elan Mira. I have always had stenograph writers. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Trish Fogle I`ve had my Diamante for a year now, and I have to say that it`s pretty great. I considered the Passport, but was greatly disappointed that Advantage Software wouldn`t give me a demo. I refused to spend that amount of money on something that I couldn`t even see or try out before purchasing. Also, I was very skeptical at the time because of the feedback from some Passport users reporting some bugs and problems with the machine. A lot of people were requesting a demo, and I`m sure Advantage Sof Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Katie Wood I love my Mira!! I don`t know anyone who has the Passport but I know a lot of people who have the Diamante and they all seem to love it. Everytime I call Stenograph they are always nice and helpful. I`m sorry to hear people had bad experiences with them. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Jackie Sigwing I guess from being someone who worked years ago on a green manual paper-eating machine I`d used in school, and did a ton of depos with it, I`m just not that into looking for whatever nuances I can find to focus on to like/hate about my Diamante. It is great, I go take a depo with it, read my stuff onto the computer & everything`s good. Until someone makes a machine that conferences in the judge by telephone when the attorneys get into it over something, or can reach out & smack them wi Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Jackie Sigwing but as I said earlier, I do love the thing! :)big difference from my little manual green machine, then the electric black one, then the huge one that used cassettes, then the Smartwriter, then the Mira, and now Diamante. All Stenograph & never had a problem in 33 years. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Patricia Babits It`s a matter of opinion. I would try both and see what is a better fit for you. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Laury Leibowitz Wasoff Had my writer serviced recently by a local person to where I live. He said no one but Eclipse is currently authorized to service the Passport writers. Not that you`d need service for a while, but something to consider. Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Denise Hamilton I had reps from both companies come to my house so I could try the writers for myself. I ended up purchasing the Diamante, I liked the feel of it better. The Passport does give you the option of adjusting the individual keys, the Diamante does not. I am still in the process of passing my state exam, so I have not worked with the Diamante. I do love it, so far! I can say that the Stenograph rep was very pushy and sometimes rude. The Advantage rep, who does not get paid, was very pleasant and no Wednesday, December 29, 2010 | ||
| Jessica Crowl There is a way to adjust each key on the Diamante, and, maybe this is different, but you can also raise and lower each key with a download. I just got my Diamante-which I LOVE-so haven`t figured out all the bells and whistles. Thursday, December 30, 2010 | ||
| Kathleen Henrich Matty Help? I need a new writer. I`ve used my Stenura 8000. It has been very good to me. Like a horse it is old and tired. I need a new writer that works with Case. Saturday, January 01, 2011 | ||
