12/25/2010 4:09:33 PM I am a new court reporting student that has been practicing on a manual machine for the past 4 months. I just received an electric machine and leave a tail on a lot of my strokes. I adjusted every setting I possible could, figuring I was probably just hitting my keys too hard but my final T and D when I press them by themselves will not advance but they show up in my next stroke. Also, my number bar doesn't advance at all (which isn't that big of a deal because I write out my numbers, but it's still annoying). Does the machine just need to be lubed or should I send it to get serviced? |

If you haven't had your 400 serviced, do it asap. Go online to the Steno Doctor (city of Orange, southern California) and the web site will give you a price listing for services. |

| April Hansen Sounds like it needs to be serviced. You`ll need to explain the problem to whomever is working on it so they know what to look for. Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| Brenda Lopez-Burghardt What`s it doing? Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| Kathleen Henrich Matty Yes. It costs $600. Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| Jessica Crowl what do you mean by `received` a machine? Did you buy it and from whom? Can you return to using your old one? I guess I don`t know the difference between a manual and electric one. Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| Ritz Sagritalo @Jessica - a manual machine only writes on paper. Electric machines can write to internal memory, memory cards, to the computer with or without paper. Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| April Hansen She has a Stentura 400. It`s basically the same thing as a manual, only the keys are electric so easier to use, and more like the professional machines touch-wise. Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| April Hansen Oh, and the cost of servicing the machine varies, depending on the vendor. Call around ask for prices. Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
| Gina Petty I use AJ steno in Kansas City. Very reasonable and VERY honest which is the most important part!! Sunday, December 26, 2010 | ||
