In some cases, this will depend on whether or not you are working in a computerized courtroom or not. In general though, you'll find that many courtrooms offer tools for captioning the proceedings if someone involved in the trial - a defendant, witness, lawyer, or judge - has hearing difficulties. Similar technologies are available in courtrooms where there may be language barriers in order to ensure that everyone understands what is going on throughout the trial. Additionally, in the case of voice writers and other situations in which the court reporters are working in realtime, there are a variety of recording tools, and hardware and software. |

In addition to the tools the previous commenter outlined, there are also tools that are used for providing demonstrations that the court reporter ma or may not need to know how to work with. |
