4/17/2010 3:45:13 PM I don't really understand the differences between court reporters and deposition reporters. Some services seem to use the two terms interchangably. Can I refer to myself as a deposition reporter because I am a trained court reporter? |

![]() | I refer to myself as a court reporter. When asked, I say that some of us work in court, known as officials, some of us work on the discovery side as in deps and arbs, known as freelancers, some of us do CART for hearing impaired people, and some of us provide broadcast captions. |

For all intents and purposes, the terms are interchangeable. Obviously, a court reporter works in court. A deposition reporter works typically as a freelancer doing depositions. There is a myriad of differences between those two jobs but the basic skill of reporting is the same. |
