The work environment depends a lot on the court reporter and whether he or she works on a freelance basis, for an attorney's office, or within the court system - typically covering hearings and trials exclusively. The worst challenges that court reporters often face is the risk of carpal tunnel from using steno machines and computers, and finding themselves tired from spending too much time sitting while taking notes. Of course, if your considerations about work environment are more directly related to stress level, keep in mind that court reporters are under a lot of pressure to ensure that all of the depositions, hearings, and trials that they are assigned to are transcribed quickly and accurately. |

What sort of environment a court reporter works in depends on the court reporter, really. Some work exclusively in court rooms processing hearings and trials - many of them work fulltime for the court system. Other court reporters work in attorney's offices, or work as freelancers and spend their time in a mix of environments - courtrooms, law offices, and even offices that they have in their homes. |
