Asked by CCCR {51} http://capitalcitycourtreporting.com 8/30/2010 2:02:09 PM I am thinking about trading in my elan Mira writer for the Diamante writer. Anyone have any comments about the Diamante versus the elan Mira? Do you still use the laptop with the Diamante? Looks like a full-size screen it. |

![]() | CCCR, Before you make your decision, take a look at the Passport. I had a Diamante and made the switch to the Passport because of a couple of things. The most important difference is the ability to adjust the key sensitivities individually on the Passport, which you cannot do on the Diamante. Additionally, the adjustment for stacking/splitting on the Passport is much more robust. Another VERY NICE feature of the Passport is that both of those adjustments can be made "on the fly" as you're writing. With the Diamante, in order to make those adjustments, you have to make the adjustment, shut the machine down, restart it, and then the new settings will take effect. The Diamante is "prettier" aesthetically than the Passport. However, the size of the Diamante's screen was a negative for me because I like to scoot my machine under the conference table as I'm writing so that my reach is shorter to my laptop for quick edits. The Diamante's screen does not lay flat enough to be able to scoot it under the table. The weight of each machine is so comparable that that shouldn't be a consideration in your decision. Those are just a couple of thoughts from me. It's a major investment so I always feel it's best to have some input from someone who has had both machines. |

I've been seriously considering the Diamante. I'm also a scooter and sometimes it's just necessary with tight locations. I never considered the difficulty with the forward folding screen and I didn't realize it does not lay flat. Great point and thank you so much for your comments! - gkrorp 9/4/2010 7:28:47 AM | FlagWhat company makes the Passport? - pinksteno 9/5/2010 7:05:17 PM | FlagThe Passport is made by Advantage Software (the makers of Eclipse software). - cmotter 9/5/2010 8:41:07 PM | Flag... and you can read a review of the Passport here: http://www.cheapandsleazy.net/passport.html - gdwarner 9/12/2010 7:16:01 AM | Flag |

I have a Diamante and it's a dream to write on this beauty of a writer. It's really meant to be used with a laptop or netbook, trust me. Since I've never written on an elan Mira, I can't give you a comparison.

I've got to ask, why do you add trust me? I've been thinking about purchasing the Diamante myself and using without a laptop or netbook. I'm just curious. - LeeL6 9/4/2010 7:08:20 AM | FlagI encountered the dreaded stacking problem when I did not connect my netbook, but I had an external digital recorder backup as I was taking a public hearing at the time. When my Diamante is connected to my netbook I do not experience stacking. - pinksteno 9/5/2010 7:08:10 PM | FlagOkay. Thanks. I actually have a stacking/splitting problem with my Stentura and didn't realize what the problem was, or that it had a name, until I started researching the different writers. I actually thought I had developed dyslexic hands the past eight years. Just one example, when I write YERS for yes, sir, ERS comes out first, then the Y on the next line. But on my paper notes, it's together. Bizarre. - LeeL6 9/7/2010 8:27:18 AM | Flag |

Hello .... If you can, I would highly recommend keeping your Mira. Yes, that will cost you more, but I've been hearing far too many complaints from folks who trade their Miras in for the Diamante and find they're having "issues" with the new writer, but can't use their Mira because they traded it in. Probably not much help, but .... --gdw |
