8/2/2010 7:40:49 PM Hello everyone! I'm so glad to have found this site! I am very interested in going to school for court reporting. Can anyone give me some insight into the online programs out there? It's all a bit overwhelming to sort through, so I'd really appreciate some first hand accounts! Thanks! ~Victoria |

I would be interested in this issue as well. Also, what does CCR stand for? - wkr1029 8/8/2010 1:27:55 AM | FlagHere is their address....ccr.edu CCR = College of Court Reporting. They are in Hobart, Indiana.When I was trying to decide whether or not to apply there, I got a guest pass and was able to go and listen to any class I wanted. They record all of their classes so you can go live or you can do the recored classes, or both! Such flexibility. All of the instructors are just fantastic. - asyesew 8/8/2010 7:57:39 AM | Flag |

Bryan College in LA is terrible. I transferred this quarter to Huntington Junior College's online program and am so glad I did. Bryan College constantly changes their curriculum and requirements, you must take night academics (even if you are a day student)to qualify for full time status and thus your financial aid, grading of tests took up to 3 weeks and their practice materials thru RTC are insufficient, yet you are required to log a certain number of hours weekly doing the same drills, over and over and over. They neglect to tell students their online program is NOT NCRA certified (although on-campus is) and as other people have mentioned, never tell prospective students not within driving range of the campus that you MUST attend in person to sit for the qualifier. They actually accept out-of-state students without explaining this detail. They are also the most expensive program out there. Buyer beware! |

I can't believe some people said Bryan College of LA. Seriously?? You guys must have really low standards then because Bryan College has major administrative flaws. They have way more students than they can handle. They don't have enough staff to grade tests (even though we pay them almost a thousand dollars per month) so feedback on tests is pretty bad, and you're lucky if you get an e-mail reply to your concerns. They definitely don't give us the treatment that a paying customer deserves, because ultimately that's what we are to them. All they care about is profit profit profit and giving the bare minimum for it. I could go on with a list of complaints. Bottom line is, when you pay as much money as we're required to pay to BC you have certain expectations, and they really couldn't care less to meet them.
Sorry for the rant people. Sometimes you just can't hold it in. |

| Elora Dorini Well - I would say first, where are you? If you`re in a state that has a state exam where you`d need to pass a qualifier, you should check that first. Bryan College (where I currently attend the day program) will NOT administer a Q exam online, so even the online students have to find a way to make it in for the exams. I don`t know much more about it since I`m not online, but if there are tests you`ll need to take at a facility, that would be my first priority to find out. Wednesday, August 04, 2010 | ||
| Elora Dorini However, I do <3 Bryan. Wednesday, August 04, 2010 | ||
| Michelle Grimes College of Court Reporting (CCR) is the best!! And, Elora, CCR does administer online tests and they do have ways of keeping us honest -- we cannot move into a new speed level until taking mentored tests proctored by an established court reporter or by taking the tests at the school. This method also hooks us up with a local court reporter who can help coach us through the whole process. I`ve got two more 225QAs yet to pass at the school, and I`ve already passed one of the three legs to the s Wednesday, August 04, 2010 | ||

| Cheryl Haab It`s not just Bryan that doesn`t do online qualifiers... i think there is currently some sort of restriction against it. Last I heard, they have been trying to get something passed to amend the restriction. Would be nice to do the Qs online! Wednesday, August 04, 2010 | ||
| Donna Panis Sage College, located in California, has two campuses for ground school, but more importantly, also has a wonderful online program. I`ve been an online student for 1 1/2 years now (which includes 2 semesters of Theory), and I`m in the 120 speeds. The Realtime practice they have is awesome! The online library contains an enormous amount of practice material for each speed level. When writing a Q&A, they use a lightboard so the student knows which speaker is talking.
