4/25/2010 1:44:41 PM Is it worth it, when I'm on a tight deadline, to delegate my work to a scopist? I'd prefer to do it all myself, but I just don't see how it's going to be possible. |

![]() | Whether you are working with an agency or you are a freelance court reporter, working with a scopist will ensure that you are able to turn in clearly edited transcripts - without having to go through the process of transcribing and editing them yourself. Especially for freelancers, having a partnership with a scopist will ensure that you are able to get the job done quickly - and that it's done right the first time. |

Scopists specialize in providing computer editing for court transcripts. When you're on a tight deadline, it's often better to outsource your work to a scopist who can take your steno notes or audio recordings, and get through them to produce finished results quickly. |

I cannot advocate more working closely and regularly with a team of skilled, professional scopists! I used to do all my own editing and was endlessly glued to my laptop... as well as having to take myself off calendar in order to complete an expedite that may be due the next day or within the next two days. Never again! Now, if I have an expedite, I'll break the file up - I can do some pages, and I'll send out a reasonable amount to trusted scopists I work with. If you're wi-fi equipped, you can even send out a morning session that's due the next day over the lunch break. It's awesome! I also can take more work when working with a scopist. My rule is give out anything over 80 pages. It works great! I highly, highly recommend it! |

Working with a scopist and a proofreader will enable you to put yourself on the books for other work. The bottom line is that there is really nothing but an upside to working with people who will take care of your work letting you get out there and do more jobs. I agree emphatically with everything that has been said so far. The use of a scopist and a proofreader will only benefit you. :) |
