From time to time people may wish to discuss particular court reporting page rates.  Is this allowed on ReadBack.org?

DO NOT discuss specific rates on this website!
There is a term called anti-trust which is illegal when a group of court reporters (or any industry for that matter) gather together to discuss particulars regarding pricing.

My policy on this board is as follows and is the same as NCRA's:

Messages should not be posted if they might be construed as encouraging or facilitating members in arriving at any agreement that either expressly or by implication leads to price fixing, a boycott of another's business, or other conduct intended to illegally restrict free trade. Messages that encourage or facilitate an agreement about the following subjects are inappropriate:

  • prices
  • discounts or terms or conditions of sale
  • salaries
  • profits
  • profit margins or cost data
  • market shares
  • sales territories or markets
  • allocation of customers or territories
  • selection, rejection or termination of customers or suppliers

If you violate my policy...
I will remove/edit your posts and you will be banned from the site.

I'd just like to say that in the legal field what you charge in your area is supposed to be comparable rates. How are you to find out if your rates are staying comparable to others in your area and your field if you don't ask? How are we supposed to stay comparable?    -    LKBragg 2/12/2011 10:59:38 AM | Flag
Hi, Todd! You say it is illegal when a group of CRs (or any industry), et cetera. The big exception to this rule of course is lawyers discussing THEIR charges. No?    -    lindasimpson 7/11/2011 6:15:39 PM | Flag
I don't know. I'm mostly concerned about following the law(s) that pertain to what I do.    -    Todd Olivas 7/13/2011 12:45:42 PM | Flag

wish you did allow it...i believe by us not talking amongst each other we just lose as a whole... if we can't ask each other who should we ask? certainly the owners of agencies aren't telling us everything...

but that's just me...

yeah, I agree with you    -    creporter00 8/3/2010 8:33:06 AM | Flag

Todd, my apologies if I offended you and went against your policy.  I tried to delete my post, but do not know how.  Can you please delete it for me?  I see how I have the $XX amount in there.

The policy is brand new so you couldn't have known about it until today. No problem. I fixed it.    -    Todd Olivas 7/28/2010 2:19:02 PM | Flag
